Tower Realm How to Read the Handbook
Open the bestiary before the bat, not after the HP bar is already empty.
The handbook is Tower Realm’s bestiary. Every Magic Tower in the launcher uses the same idea: you inspect a monster before you walk into it. The page is not flavor. It is the difference between a legal fight and a zero-damage wall. Pair it with the combat calculator and the combat and routing guide. Do not treat either as optional homework.
Open it before the first slime
Getting started already tells you to set language, then look at the first enemy. That order still holds after 1.0.6. If the options screen hid the language buttons, fix that on troubleshooting so handbook names match the wiki. English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese are the store languages. Mixing them mid-tower is how you misread a first-strike line.
Stand next to a monster you have not fought. Open the handbook. Read ATK, DEF, HP, and any extra sentence. Then decide whether the tile is a fight, a skip, or a shop detour. The Floor 3 sword in Destined Melody exists because the handbook already told you the next bats would hurt. If you skipped the book, the sword looks like a random pickup.
ATK versus DEF is the whole first lesson
Classic Magic Tower damage is not “hit until someone dies.” If your ATK does not beat the enemy DEF, you deal nothing. If their ATK does not beat your DEF, they deal nothing. The handbook is how you see both numbers without guessing. The calculator is how you see remaining HP after the round count. Use both. A green HP bar in the book is not a promise that the fight is cheap. Regen, first strike, and extra hits can still empty you.
When Custom Mode raises enemy DEF, the same bat that was free becomes illegal. That is the point of Custom Mode. Recalculate. Do not “feel” the new number.
Extra lines are not flavor text
Some entries add a sentence after the three stats. Treat every extra line as a rule:
- First strike or preemptive hits mean you take damage before your first swing. A fight that looks legal on raw ATK can still kill you on the opening tick.
- Regeneration means the enemy heals between rounds. A long fight against a regenerating DEF wall is a trap even if each of your hits lands.
- Extra attacks, magic, or status lines change the round math. If the book mentions them, the calculator’s simple loop may be incomplete. Write the extra rule down, then add it by hand.
We will not invent a full trait list the game has not published in English. If a tower’s handbook uses a Chinese or Japanese term you do not know, pause. Change language or look the glyph up. Do not assume pickaxes, poison, or instant death unless the line says so.
What the handbook will not do
It will not tell you which yellow door is on the critical path. That is routing. It will not tell you whether a shop ATK point is worth two keys. That is still your gold count. It will not replace a Green Key teaching run. The book shows the monster. The key shows you can skip a fight you already understood.
It also will not fix a bugged start. If Destined Melody dumped you underground before 1.0.6, the basement monsters are not the intended first lesson. Update, then read the book from the real entrance.
A short inspection habit
- New floor: scan for shops, keys, and the stair.
- New monster family: open the handbook before the first tile.
- Write ATK, DEF, HP, extra line.
- Plug the three numbers into the calculator.
- If the extra line breaks the loop, do not walk in until you can explain the exception.
That habit is slower than charging a red bat. It is also how you keep a hardcore file alive. Hardcore does not add a second handbook. It removes the undo. Read twice.
After the book is in your hands
Use it on The Saga of Tower the same way. 1.0.6 fixed tile passing there; the handbook did not change. Use it on System Cultivating before you blame the extra rules for a death that was actually an illegal ATK. Use it on DLC maps after you own them. A Thousand Towers Journey still has a 1.0.6.1 note about a steal exploit on a large Green Key. The book will not warn you about that bug. Patch notes will.
Official combat art on this page is a local Steam screenshot of the grid, not a decorative SVG. If a YouTube creator later posts a real handbook walkthrough, we will embed one verified ID here. Until then this page stays text, because a guessed trailer is worse than no video.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Tower Realm questions.
Do I need the calculator if I already opened the handbook?
Yes. The book shows ATK, DEF, HP, and extra rules. The calculator shows remaining HP after rounds. Use both before optional rooms.
What if the extra line is in another language?
Set the game language first. Mixing English labels with a Chinese extra line is how first-strike gets missed. Troubleshooting covers hidden language buttons.
Does a high HP monster always cost more than a low HP one?
No. Illegal ATK deals zero. Regen and first strike can make a smaller HP bar more expensive. Read the extra line.
